Moodboards for Airport
Initial Ideas for airport is to produce a really surreal experience. I want it to look like an art gallery and have a very elegant yet unusual feel to the buildings. My airport will be set on the top of a mountain in the middle of nowhere so I want to create a place which is to be visited and has it’s very own airport. I am going to try out some tutorials on creating snow as I think I want the mountain to be snowy. My idea is to create a destination in an extremely unusual location. The buildings will be powered by natural energy sources and it will be environmentally friendly with solar panels etc.
Space Moodboard
I have been looking into the visual details of Space in order to get a better idea for my rollercoaster environment. I created this moodboard to collate relevent images to reference when creating my environment.
I noticed a textural difference between some of the planets, some of them seemed like quite a smooth surface and the others were very bumpy and had craters in. The colour of the surroundings were very dark with blues and purples visible, with the planets having a range of dull and dark colours. There were other areas which were extremely bright and contained reds and oranges. I will need to create these sorts of colours in my environment without making them too garish so they are more realistic.
I like how I will be able to have a big contrast between my balloon rollercoaster and the environment because of the colours, textures and general feel of the objects. The balloons will be really shiny and smooth, using quite bright, fun colours with unusual shapes whereas the space environment will be much duller with rougher textures. This will enable me to take the time to learn more about texturing in 3ds Max. I will enjoy this learning process as it will be beneficial but also useful in completing my project.
Chosen Idea for Rollercoaster
I think I have chosen the idea I want to pursue for my rollercoaster.
- I want to have an introduction scene to my animation with a small child holding a helium balloon.
- They will then see something shiny on the floor and bend down to pick it up whilst letting go of their balloon.
- The balloon will float away now out of there reach and they watch it until they can no longer see it.
- I will use some sort of phrase like “Have you ever wondered what happens to lost balloons?”
- It will then switch to my space environment with the balloon floating up and attaching itself to the rest of the balloons that have collected in space.
- The camera will zoom out and you will realised the balloons have all collected by a planet in space and have formed a rollercoaster.
I decided to create a couple of moodboards for my rollercoaster ideas in order to get a better visualisation of what it will look like.
I have created a moodboard of balloons as this will be the theme of my rollercoaster and what it is made of. I tried to get a wide variety of different images showing balloons in loads of weird and interesting ways. I was quite surprised with the huge variety of images using balloons ranging from standard balloons to shaped balloons to hot air balloons. The images I found are all very colourful and I will need to reflect this in my rollercoaster. I will need to work out how these colours compare to those in space and if I can contrast them. Unaware of the wide use of balloons I will need to reflect this in my rollercoaster or I will need to choose a type of balloon and stick with just one.
Following this moodboard I will create a moodboard of space so that I can get a visual idea about my environment for my rollercoaster. I will start planning and sketching out what it’s going to look like and how I can create this in 3ds max. I will continue to look at textures for the balloons in order to make them realistic and decide how I can texture my environment.
Moodboards
This is my moodboard for my overall box/showcase. I want to use my idea of having it as a theatre and have decided I would like to go for an old/victorian look.
This moodboard is for my avatar and I have stuck with a similar theme to the one I have chosen for my box/showcase. I would like to create myself as a puppet in my theatre but have not decided on a style or whether I want the avatar to look much like me or just be the same as my tastes.
My Bedroom Wall
I have a huge board on one of the walls of my bedroom full of photos, tickets and random things I have collected. This is really important to me and when I first moved to uni really made me feel at home in my new room. The collection of things are all really personal and I enjoy collecting things like this no matter how strange the things are that go on my wall. Most of the things here have been collected in the last 2 or 3 years so I feel they would be really appropriate for my curiosity cabinet. I like the way it’s really full and quite cluttered so I feel I should follow this style for my curiosity cabinet.
Collage
I made this collage over christmas with the few bits I had at home as quite a lot of things I left at uni. It mainly consists of things I like rather than objects that can be associated with me. I think this is a good start as it’s hard to choose from everything a few items which really show who I am. I’ve included a theatre ticket as I went over christmas and really enjoy going. Living quite close to London it’s easy to get to a huge range of shows and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all the ones I have seen so far. Next to that is a gig ticket and my Reading Festival band as again I really enjoy going and have been to Reading for the past 3 years. I’ve got quite a few gigs lined up in the next few weeks around Nottingham and Leeds including music and comedy acts. In my collage is a Smirnoff vodka label as I enjoy going out drinking with friends. There’s a chocolate wrapper as I love chocolate and especially over christmas ate a lot! My favourite animation movie at the moment is Cars by Pixar. I think the characters are great, the animation looks so good and the general story was really well planned out. The last 2 objects I’ve put in my collage is a picture of a tube as I really enjoy living so close to London and being able to go to huge variety of places I can visit there. Lastly, there is a picture of a painting by Dali as I really like my art and he’s one of my favourite artists.
I will be making more collages to try and decide on what to include in my curiosity cabinet. I’ll look at objects to show who I am, more things I like and general themes I could use. I have already started to think about the layout so I will post some of my initial ideas up here soon.
