Airport is Complete!

I might make a few changes before submission but overall I am very pleased with how my airport has turned out.

Airport is finally coming together!

All my old posts are on my other blog tracking the progress as I have been working on it- http://sophie-magnante.blogspot.com/

I have added in lighting using a daylight system and omni’s for the inside of the buildings. I think I have achieved the airy and spacious feel I wanted to give my airport and the art works well throughout. A lot of the furniture is functional but also arty. I have ended up going for the theme of human bodies throughout the airport with many features representing a person and life drawing’s in frames throughout (these aren’t very clear at the moment but I have sorted the contrast so they will be clearer with my final render)  There are a few things left to change but the camera’s are all in place and ready to be rendered out very soon! Exciting!

Toilets

Here is the progress I have made with the toilets for my airport.

The toilet area is created within a half sphere building and has curtains as the entrance. I will be able to place this sphere in any section of the building and have exactly the same bathrooms throughout.

To keep the same feel throughout the whole building the hands and feet are present on this chair and table.

I have started to apply textures the this area to see what it looks like and then once it looks good I can have a complete area and move onto the next rather than several incomplete areas.

Inside the Airport

Here is what will be seen when first entering the airport. I will angle the camera so it appears large on the ground level and not as close to the stairs. There will be more art pieces put into the interior for example paintings, sculptures and plants. Also a fountain will be the centre piece for this ground level.

Here is an overview shot of the entire airport section. The ceilings are very high and each section can be seen from every area creating a very airy and open feeling.

There will be a bar/waiting area with tables and chairs with hands and feet, taking inspiration from Allen Jones’s Pop Art.

I have tried to create a more interesting check in desk to regular airports using different art pieces to inspire my designs. I will hopefully animate some parts of these so it is clear how they are used. The lip structure is a scanner for hand luggage and the bags are placed on the tongue and then fed through to scan them. The structure on the right relates with the tables and chairs in the bar/waiting area and acts as a metal detector scanner for the people.

Progress with Airport Project

I have modelled the basic mountain shape and the seperate buildings of the airport placing them in the right positions. The cave like shape will be where the planes land and the left building the main entrance. I will be texturing these later on, I wanted to get some basics done before getting the smaller details complete.

I think the shapes of the building fit quite well around the shape of the mountain and slot around it well making it look more natural that there is an airport on a mountain.

More Floor Plans for Airport

These are some developed floor plans deciding on the layout of my airport/ hotel. I have decided on the most important aspects to include and laid these out appropriately. I want quite a spacious feel in my airport so I’m trying not to squash too much into each room. I will develop these further by creating floor plans in Adobe Illustrator and decide on scale whilst making them so I can start to build upon these to create my model.

I may have the same shape building as below around the other side of the mountain for check in and check out to have seperate sections, therefore it won’t get confusing with people arriving and leaving for the planes.

I have been working on a layout for my hotel lobby. I want it very spacious with just a check in desk. There will be a nice lounge area with some art scultpures around. I have decided to have a grand staircase which will open up the second floor of the hotel as well creating a much more airy feel.
The second floor of the hotel will have the rooms in but I want to be able to keep it spacious and minimalistic like the rest of the airport. I struggled with the drawing below so I have decided to attach the rooms to the outside of the shape and have them as pod-like shapes sticking out the side of the building as you can see in the last drawing.

Furniture and Interior Ideas for Airport

I want the furniture and interior of my airport to be very surreal and unusual. I will take inspiration from artists to design interesting features whilst still keeping the classic and beautiful feel I am going for. I will be using Dali and Magritte for inspiration for the furniture.

I am planning to create a lift which looks like a tux. The arms will be animated and open the tux to reveal the inside of the lift, instead of having usual doors.
I want to include a number of old fashioned items as furniture and in the restrooms I want to have the mirrors as monocles.

Initial Floor Plan Ideas for Airport/Hotel

My airport will contain a number of entertainment activities as it will be a holiday destination within itself. There will be a large building for the airport, one for hotel and three smaller buildings with a range of activities in. Here are my initial floor plan ideas and sketches.

Airport on a Mountain

My airport will be situated on the top of a snowy mountain in the middle of nowhere. People will visit this airport and stay in it’s hotel to experience the incredible views from the glass walls.

Moodboards for Airport

Initial Ideas for airport is to produce a really surreal experience. I want it to look like an art gallery and have a very elegant yet unusual feel to the buildings. My airport will be set on the top of a mountain in the middle of nowhere so I want to create a place which is to be visited and has it’s very own airport. I am going to try out some tutorials on creating snow as I think I want the mountain to be snowy. My idea is to create a destination in an extremely unusual location. The buildings will be powered by natural energy sources and it will be environmentally friendly with solar panels etc.
