I have been making changes to my environment after speaking to my client. Also I’ve started adding lights into the scene (only some of the shots have the appropriate lighting in at the moment). It’s not going as badly as previously so hopefully lighting the rest of the shots will be ok.

Practising Material Textures
http://www.cglearn.com/tutorials/max3/11_materials_still_life_pt_1.html
I used the above tutorial to practise textures, especially glass and reflection in order to help with my idea for my Rollercoaster for Visualisation. I’ll be putting ideas up for that soon so the relevance will become apparent. In the tutorial I was given the models and the files used for the textures and just had to alter the materials.

I created the above render but decided to do a bit more work on the individual objects as the colours felt a bit flat. I wanted to add more gloss and reflection to the apple in order to bring out the colour and make it a bit more realistic.
I added a bump map to the orange in order to create a more uneven surface and also changed the colour to make it a bit more realistic.

I added reflection, refraction, glossiness and bump maps in order to get the textures. The label on the wine still needs some work on but I’ve learnt what I need to from the tutorial so I don’t feel I need to work anymore on it. I will try and apply these techniques to my own work and replicate what I have produced here.
I am quite pleased with the overall outcome and feel that these techniques could prove to be very useful in my visualisation project in order to make my environment and rollercoaster the most realistic I can. The only problem I think I may find with using this method of texturing for my rollercoaster will be the rendering time. This scene took quite a while to render and was only one frame. If I’m creating a 60second animation and each frame takes as long as this did then it will literally take forever! I will have to use what I have learnt and practise it to see how I think it will be best to do my rollercoaster.
