I came across these animations the other day and they are pretty impressive.
Look at the making of videos as well, its really interesting. They had lots of students help out in ‘Gulp’, would have been so much fun to work on this short film!

For artefact 6 I used feedback I received, alongside the skills I have developed throughout the project, to improve artefact 5. This supports the conclusion from my written document that states receiving constant feedback is vital for creating thinking characters and believable pieces of animation. It was difficult to receive constant feedback throughout the module because we only had lessons once a week. I used forums as well but within a two week time period there was not enough time to put my work on forums, wait for people to respond and then improve the artefact.
The improvements I made proved successful when I showed my peer group. They agreed that the boy character looked a lot more alive and they raised a lot less issues than the first time around. One of the main comments was about the camera angle and how it was affecting the way the characters were seen. Someone also bought up the laws of animation and how i should look at silhouettes because my poses may not have been strong enough. Due to the nature of the points raised from my peer group, I realised that the advice I had gained from my written research document had taken me as far as it could. To improve my animation further I would now need to widen the range of techniques I am looking at.
Overall I am pleased with the progress I have made in artefact 6. The detail I have been able to add has proven that if I were to continue receiving feedback and improving it, I could create something even stronger. For the time frame available I am proud of the skills I have been able to demonstrate and continue to use these skills in future animations.
For my 6th artefact I decided to make improvements on the feedback I received for artefact 5.
For my fifth artefact I used two characters and focused on displaying their thoughts through their reactions. The audio is from the recent Disneyland adverts and I have attempted to display excitement, confusion and shock. I decided that my animation was lacking the natural flowing look that professional animations have and that this problem has been occurring in all my artefacts. This takes away from the believability of the piece and affects my ability to portray thoughts.
I asked my peers and used a forum to obtain feedback on how specifically this piece of animation can be improved. One area which came up was that my characters don’t react to each other enough and they need to show that they’re thoughts are bouncing off the other’s reactions. In some areas people thought that the movements were too exaggerated and others weren’t exaggerated enough so I will be working on all these areas to help make my piece more believable. There are some acting choices which could be rethought, for example, many of the characters movements are symmetrical and it could look better to bring some asymmetry into it. There are some specific animation parts which can be tweaked like smoothening the walk, adding weight to it and ensuring there are no knee pops.
The main aim from this artefact is to now focus on a specific point from my Research Document where I spoke about how people are constantly moving and how every movement must have a reason. This is where I have been struggling to the most throughout the project so to focus on this area I will make improvements to my animation and hopefully overcome this issue.
For this artefact I looked more into reactions. The sound clip is taken from the recent disneyland adverts.
Finally finished my client project animation after lots of hard work and stress. There were many problems throughout the project that I had to solve and there are still things which could be improved but overall i am quite pleased with it. I think more time could have been spent improving the piece but I think it’s always hard to stop as I can always find new things to improve. Glad the project is finished and it may be something i come back to later on but for now I am pleased with the submission and am hoping to do well.
Here is the progress I have been making with my client project animation. It’s starting to take shape, some parts are still missing but are being worked on.
